If Laura wasn't so good at doing her work,i would never have attempted it.

There can be so many distractions...

    IMG_6084.JPG

But she sticks to her work like such a good girl.

Then she tells me I am a distraction to her and to stop taking pictures.

  • I didn't know you were homeschooling her!  Good for you.  This is our 7th year...it is different each year. It is always helpful when they want to learn and to get the work done.

  • Wow!  Good for you!  She's so precious sitting there doing her work!  I think you will be so happy with the experience, I find it difficult at times but the rewards are wonderful.

  • I'm glad to hear it is going well!  What is it like not having to send her off to school?  I hope things continue to go well!

  • So far it is going good...i am surprised how the homeschool that I chose has it set up each week so as not to make it overwhelming to laura. It works out perfectly. She has a tutor also who is on call in case there are questions. With the program,i send in her homework at the end of each week, the tutor grades it and sends it back..(which,i am thinking i don't need this option because i can grade it.)I really like having her home with me,and I wish I could also teach Carter at home, but i believe he needs the structure of school at this point(i struggle with him to just do his homework from school). He also does better with a structured setting.(helping him to stay on track and focus on his work)I wonder everyday what it is like for Shanda to homeschool all her children(except David, whom seems to be VERY similar to Carter) it must be overwhelming sometimes.

  •    I hope she sticks with it .  I think homeschooling 5 or 6 children would definitely be like having your own one-room-schoolhouse! I think the older ones hopefully would help with the younger ones.  There is also a closeness that can develop between the children.  I am glad she also has a tutor.  I remember when you were homeschooled for one year.  It really was not difficult and i was amazed at the amount of time that was seemingly wasted in the public school system.  I guess they consider that time "social development."  In any case they are not really missing out on anything when they are homeschooled. In fact they have much more individual attention than if they were enrolled in a public school, and can go on "class trips" with the family which the public school system can't afford to do (either because of high liability or lack of funds).   Emelia had her first day of headstart today.  Lucy did not take it well, Robin said she had a *meltdown* when she saw Emelia get on the bus -- she wanted to go with her!!  I kind of suspected when she was over two nights ago (9/27/09) and told me she was going to go with Emelia to school too!!  Robin was totally surprised by the meltdown - she hadn't realized that Lucy was expecting to go with Emelia to headstart!!  I dropped by when the headstart lady was interviewing Emelia.Lucy was also sitting at the table and answering the questions.  I think she really expected to go with Emelia

  • Is that the Greatest Man book sitting on top of a notebook or is that the actual class study book based on our Greatest Man publication???

  • actually The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived book is written into the program...it's neat because on the instruction page it says she has to look up every scripture sited and answer all the questions, then write two paragraphs on how the information helps her.I was going to call Robin to see how Lucy did today.
